Gustavo Lins
While it is frequent to define clothing as architecture for the body, in the case of Gustavo Lins it is more than just a simple, or bold, analogy. The designer, of Brazilian origin, actually started out as an architect, but after taking up a challenge from one of his university professors, he transferred and applied the skills acquired in that discipline to other materials: those that make up the world of clothing. It is no coincidence that his creations, particularly dresses, jackets, and coats, replicate that harmonious geometric complexity characteristic of those who possess a clear awareness of proportions and measurements.

The lines and cuts, unusual for an eye not yet accustomed to the Japanese school, nevertheless manage to maintain their sobriety and are more easily assimilated. Without yielding to creative excesses, Lins's work reconciles quality in materials with volumetric effects, defined by drapes and exposed stitching—original yet suitable for daily wear, not categorized into any recognizable season and, therefore, timeless. Certainly to be placed within the avant-garde fashion sector, Lins enters it with discretion, satisfying the expressive needs even of the least flashy and hedonistic minds.
