Special Room
A “special room,” timeless and beyond the confines of fashion seasons, that houses garments of exceptional creative and formal complexity: pieces that have become emblematic of a collection, marked a significant moment in a designer’s history, or have left a lasting imprint simply by virtue of their extraordinary composition, revealing a cosmopolitan eclecticism, fertile with unexplored and timeless solutions.
Examples of rupture, genuine turning points in the expressive language of fashion, or acrobatic feats of tailoring: evidence of visionary impulses that cannot be surrendered to the obsolescence inherent in what is commonly known as the fashion system.
The Special Room can therefore be regarded as a kind of historical archive of IVO MILAN, a virtual space where, for years, garments acquired with boldness and a sense of wonder have been relocated, driven by a perceptive intuition of the work of art in the form of a dress. So, even when unsold in their season of release, how could such garments be left to the thankless fate of being “discounted” and then inevitably forgotten? They have often been one-of-a-kind pieces or produced in an extremely limited number of examples, revealing a significant familiarity with the worlds of art, abstraction and experimentation, and an equally marked distance from more trend-driven fashion, focused on enhancing the anatomy of the body and the economic power of the person wearing it.
These garments, by contrast, may be considered elements of an imaginary philosophical dialogue between the self and the world, mediums of communication and expression and, at times, occasions for disorientation, fully fledged aesthetic exercises, extensions of one’s own culture, creativity and reflective complexity.
